RM of Hudson Bay’s story
The Rural Municipality of Hudson Bay No. 394 became a rural municipality on May 1, 1977. It lies in the northeast-central part of Saskatchewan, and at 12,462 square kilometres it is the largest rural municipality in the province.
Within its boundaries are the town of Hudson Bay, which is home to the RM's office, and the organized hamlets of Elbow Lake, Erwood and Little Swan River. Localities include Akosane, Bertwell, Etomami, Hudson Bay Junction, Reserve and Veillardville. Several First Nations communities are also surrounded by the RM.
Rail lines of the Canadian National Railway have long served the area, including stops at Hudson Bay Junction, Erwood and Reserve, where the Winnipeg-Churchill train still calls. Highways 3 and 9 serve the town of Hudson Bay, and a council and administrator meet monthly to run the municipality.
